Windy Tuesday

It was a blustery cold windy day today, but the ladies blew in with some beaut show and tell just the same.  Our meeting room is so lovely and warm and we are busy chatting and sewing that we don't even notice how cold it is outside.

Carol has just had this magnificent hand appliqued quilt professionally custom quilted.  Nice work Carol.


















This bright and cheerful quilt has been put together by our very talented Lyn C.  Lyn is teaching this pattern at Sew Creative in Gatton soon.  For the class she has called it " Tossed Floral Salad". She refers to it as Jacavillea as the mix of colours reminded her of a mix of Jacaranda and Bouganvillea.

Denise has made this lovely bright child's quilt for her sister's new grandchild.   She has put some colourful blocks on the reverse side as well.  It is a much more vibrant orange than this photo shows!!

This stunning quilt, simply called "Hearts", has been put together by Carolyn.  Carolyn has appliqued and hand stitched embroidery to the hearts which can't be clearly seen here, but gives the quilt a very unique touch.  Beautiful work, Carolyn

Going Japanese with Judy

 
Our very talented member Judy F has put together this wonderful Japanese Fan Quilt.  Her daughter gave her a great big box of the background fabrics and Judy used lots of her scraps for the fan blades.

 
Here is Judy proudly showing us her quilt.  All the scraps in the stripped border are within the quilt somewhere.

Judy ran out of Japanese fabric - so what to do?  Paint your own, of course. Judy painted these fish and cranes.  Wonderful work Judy. 

Christmas in July 2010

Santa made a cameo appearance at our Christmas in July on Saturday.  Here 'he' is with our lucky winner of the fabric raffle, Vida.

 

Sheila's teddy bears joined us in a picnic too.  They had tea and cupcakes, bananas, donuts etc.  Clever knitting Sheila!

Each table was decorated with this delightful posy.















The bring and buy table was popular and the silent auction brought forth some energetic bidding.

Funds raised from the day will go to St Vincents de Paul Christmas appeal. 

Gifts

 
Angela, one of our talented tutors in the group, has made these two lovely bags to give to friends visiting Oz from Germany.  Angela has used Australiana fabric for her two bags.  The one on the left is the famous lattice bag, and the one on the right is a store grocery bag cleverly covered in a lovely Australian botanical fabric.

Angela has also done this Double Irish Chain quilt for her daughter and son-in-law.  She struggled with the colours they chose, but she was ultimately happy with the outcome.  And so she should be!!  She has also done the beautiful machine quilting on her domestic machine.

Angela has a couple of workshops coming up in machine quilting, but you would have to be quick to book in as they are filling fast.



 
Marleen is just putting the binding on this wonderful kaleidoscope quilt.  She is the queen of stack and whack and kaleidoscopes.  She is gifting this one to some lucky person.

This Saturday we are having our Christmas in July fundraiser with funds raised going to a local charity at Christmas time.  We always have a fun day with a silent auction, raffles, games and of course a bring and share luncheon with Christmas goodies.  

Show and Tell on Bag Day

 Jan brought along her latest grandchild's new quilt.  She is just putting the binding and finishing touches to it.

Eye Candy Tuesday

This is a cute I-Spy quilt done with a "cheater" fabric.  The mystery maker is hiding.  Playing I-Spy??

 


Angela has done this bright and cheery strippy quilts using up her scraps, of course. 

 

Gotta love black and white!!  The small strips in the borders add some interest to this one too.  Good work.

More Show and Tell

Di S. has finished two Stack and Whack quilts following her attendance at Fay's workshop last year. Fay is as delighted as her students when completed quilts arrive for Show and Tell!

Jan S finshed her first quilt recently: beautiful needle-turned applique plus she machine-quilted it herself.

Marlene who produces heaps of amazing work showed us this lovely quilt that she commenced in Robyn's workshop last year.

Show and Tell on a Tuesday

 
We have been having some fabulous show and tells on a Tuesday lately. The group on a Tuesday continues to grow and we are averaging around 30 - 35 quilters.  Because of this we seem to be getting heaps of quilts and other items along for impromptu show and tell.

This is Linda above (right) who did this lovely 'wagga' for a contest in Chinchilla.  Linda won with this quilt and received a $50 cash injection.  She made the quilt from old woolen pieces she had to hand, even part of a dress her husband had bought her many years ago.  Lois is helping her display for the photo.

This is one HUGE quilt!  Jan made this large oriental quilt and has done a superb job.  She even machine quilted it herself on her domestic machine.  This quilt was so big, it was difficult to get it all into a photograph.  It is spectacular, Jan, well done!

Qld Quilter's Picnic at Gatton

Last Tuesday, a few car loads of our members visited the Gatton Historical site to attend the Queensland Quilters annual picnic.  Our club hosted the event in May last year, so it was good to see so many of our members supporting the Gatton picnic.

 Here are some of our ladies in front of one of the shops attending the picnic.  It was set up on the verandah of an old slab hut which was full of old furniture and bric a brac. (you could enter the hut from the rear to check out all the old stuff).

Here is the attempt at the Worlds Largest Quilt.  It is made up of many of thousands of hexagons which have been sent in from all over Australia and from around the world.  You can read more about the quilt and it's construction at the Sew Creative website.   It was hard to capture the enormity of the quilt on our little digital cameras.

Found on the bed in the slab hut, a very old hexagon quilt covering an antique iron bed










Sheltering from the sun, Carol (L) and Barb (R).  Later on they would have needed the umbrella for the other reason.  No sooner had the crowd dispersed and the huge quilt was packed into a van, the clouds opened up.

Just one of the very quaint buidings on the historical site.  Contained in the blacksmith shop were all sorts of tools of the trade as well as an original forge,anvil and a very old bellows.

A fascinating journey into Australia's past and a great day out enjoyed by all.
