Merchant Mall - A first for our Exhibition

This year we have  a merchant mall set up for added interest for our visitors.

 Nikki's daughter, Miranda is pictured here manning the beautiful stall from Nikki Tervo Designs.  Miranda is a friendly, happy and cheerful girl, always willing to help you out and select the ideal button for your project. They also stock a lovely range of fabrics, patterns and lots more. 

There are all types of hand painted ceramic buttons in these little boxes, and Nikki also has a large range of other craft buttons.  She has over 800 different designs and some can come in up to 25 different colours.  Thank you for participating in our exhibtion Nikki and Miranda.

Precious Time

 The Quilters Angel

 The Quilters Angel from Highfields has set up a lovely stall full of goodies for you to purchase.  Steph is there to help you with your selections.  They have a large range of beautiful fabrics, all sorts of unique gift wares, patterns and kits.  They also offer classes.

Kool Kat Quilting

Kathy and Geoff offer a professional quilting service, quilt patterns and kits online.  They are locals, and Kathy is a well respected member of Toowoomba Quilters Club.  

 

Kathy has designed some wonderful quilts and has kits for sale as well as fabrics and notions.  Come in and see Kathy or Geoff and see how they can help you with your quilting needs.  It is great to have them at the show.

 Indigo Niche

Two delightful ladies, Sue and Colleen from Indigo Niche have joined us.  This shop specializes in Japanese and Aboriginal design.  We welcome them to our exhibition and also to our club and look forward to a long association.












 

 Indigo Niche has a sumptuous range of indigos and other Japanese fabrics and the ladies have set up a wonderful display of their goods.

They also have a large range of sashiko threads and pre-printed sashiko designs, patterns and notions.

There is certainly ' Sashiko fever' amongst club members at the moment.

Exhibition 2010 - Fine Art Items

Day 5

We set a section aside at our exhibition to display members' smaller items and fine art items.

Apart from patchwork and quilting many of our members are proficient in other areas of art and craft.  On display this year, we have cross stitch, embroidery, felting, knitting, lace making, machine embroidery and collage, and more.  The talent in the club is amazing.

"Nemesis" by Sue M - Hand and machine applique, hand and machine embroidery.  Silk screen painting and hand painting.  A comment on evolution and environment.
 

"Kimberley Beach" by Linda W - Linda's first go at using her embellishing machine. Kit from Dale Rolleson.  Hand beaded and embroidered.
 This is an amazing work by our member Dorothy C.  She has used the 'confetti' method to build up this collage of her cute pet.  All tiny pieces of fabric cut up and then sewn down.  Well done Dorothy.

Exhibition 2010 - Demonstrations and Works in Progress

Day 4:
Showing us some foundation piecing on her little baby machine is Lyn Crump of Busy Quilting.  Lyn is a member, our workshop convenor,  and she also tutors workshops at our club from time to time.

 She has a Bargello workshop coming up soon for our members to participate in.
 
Here is some precision piecing Lyn has been able to do using the foundation paper piecing.

Vicky is showing us how she puts her hexagon paper piecing together. Janet is keeping her company. 

  This is how she has her project set up to go - very organized.

Genell is busy sewing up a Moda Jelly Roll.  She loves jelly roll quilts and has done some lovely projects with them.


This is what she has been  up to.  It is going to be a beauty!

 Even the sales table ladies, Joan and Marleen are showing their sewing skills.  Marleen working on a sashiko project and Joan working on her latest applique quilt.

Exhibition 2010 - Day 3

Day 3 brought us a foggy, rainy day.  It also brought loads of people through the door who otherwise would have probably gone to see the gardens.  We have some lovely floral displays put together by our members to remind them we ARE the garden city after all.

The following quilts are on display and have been designed by two of our very talented members.  The work on display is outstanding and visitors are amazed at the variety and the quality of the show.

Exhibition 2010 Opening Night and New Venue

 TOOWOOMBA QUITLER'S CLUB INC.  PRESENT:
 EXHIBITION OF QUILTS AND OTHER FINE ARTS - SALO CENTRE, ST URSULA'S COLLEGE, ROME STREET, TOOWOOMBA.  9.00-5.00 AM  DAILY  

It was a grand opening night on Saturday night.  Guest speaker, narrative textile artist, Morley Grainger, kept the crowd of around 70 visitors entertained. (L-R Angela Langdon, Morley Grainger, Marilyn C (President Toowoomba Quilters Club Inc.) and Margie C.

Following Morley's talk, a delicious supper was served and the visitors were able to mingle and view the exhibition. 
A special thank you to our band of workers who delivered a wonderful opening night.

 
Our new venue has a coffee shop set up in the foyer where visitors to the exhibition may partake of delicious cakes and slices, sandwiches, rolls etc, coffee and tea and other drinks.  It is a great meeting place for members and visitors alike.  Prices are extremely reasonable. (L-R Marion, Ann, Fay, Shirley (visitor) and Angela). 

Here is another corner of our exhibition - Fay Suley's Stack and Whack corner.  Fay loves the technique and has given workshops at the club.  It is fascinating how the technique can use one single fabric and yet make so many different kaleidoscope patterns.  Come along and visit Fay and see how she uses quick and easy ways to achieve the look. 
We have other demonstrations and displays running during the week. 

Exhibition 2010 Opening Day

The meet and greet table first morning of the exhibition. (L-R)  Judy F, Sue M, President Marilyn and busy worker bee Lola.  In this photo they are sewing and demonstrating skills, but most of the day, they were busy with a steady flow of people through the door. 

Treasurer, Dot and our Exhibition Convenor, Angela at our magnificent sales table.  The ladies have been very busy this year hand crafting all sorts of articles for people to purchase at the exhibition.  Sales on the first day were brisk.


The items on display are under various headings - Christmas, Baby, Needlework, Fashion Accessories etc.  We managed to cover 6 tables!!

The members have raided their gardens and we have wonderful floral arrangements around the exhibition hall.

 

The body of the new venue, Salo Centre, Rome Street.  The centre gives us much space for people to step back and view the quilts and move around easily.

 

Beginners Corner - Angela Langdon (Club member & Exhibition Convenor) showcases the beginners class she offers to members of Toowoomba Quilters.  Newcomers to the club find the lessons invaluable and the quilt top on the right was done by a new member to the club in 2010, Libby, who did the lessons at the start of the year.
 

Here is Yvonne having some fun, and showing us her beanie creation she made for the beanie festival in Alice Springs N.T. this year.  The beanie was entitled 'Divine Love' and features crocheted lemon cupcakes.  She carries it off beautifully!!

Bull's Head Inn Display

 
If you are in Toowoomba visiting our 2010 Exhibition of Quilts and other fine arts this weekend, do make a point of going to the old Bull's Head Inn (Drayton Road, Drayton) and catching this wonderful display of antique quilts.
It has been put together by Margie Creek and the Queensland Quilt Study group, and is a feast for the eyes.











Remember our quilt show is open all this weekend and up until Friday 24th September.

Don't miss this show if you come to Toowoomba for our famous Carnival of Flowers.

We have over 160 quilts and 40 plus small fine art items for you to view.  Tea, coffee and cakes etc. are available.

A sales table will be operating full of wonderful handmade items made by members of Toowoomba Quilters.

We also have some traders selling quilting goodies. Members will be sharing their varied talents by way of demonstrations and displays.

It looks like being a fabulous show.

Workshop Fun

 
We are very fortunate to have in our club an accredited teacher, Angela Langdon.  She is a wonderful domestic machine quilter and is sharing tips and hints with lucky members.
 Her workshops are such fun, and you always learn heaps.  That is Angela there in the middle in the pale blue shirt. 
 
 No, they are not doing a Michael Jackson impersonation!  They are showing off their new machine quilting gloves which they are about to give a workout.  We are looking forward to viewing some of their quilting on their quilts at our up-coming show.
 

Stunning Work

The ladies have been doing some stunning work lately. Where do they find the hours???
















Angela did this bag - "AustralianWildflowers Bouquet"  in a workshop with Jane Sassaman.  It is machine appliqued and Angela designed it herself in the workshop.  As she didn't need another cushion she has made it into a ruler bag for herself.


















Young Judy F has been busy again.  Judy we don't know how you do it!!  She did this as a mystery quilt at her daughters quilt studio.  It is a Debbie Caffrey designed mystery quilt.  Isn't it absolutely stunning!

 


















Here she is again! Proudly showing her completed kaleidoscope hexagon quilt.  It is made from a fabric with mermaids all over it.  She has come up with some amazing kaleidoscopes.

 
Judy intends hanging it with these gorgeous starfish on each end.  Very creative lady our Judy.

 
Last but not least this beautiful applique lap quilt made by Carol F.  Carol had it professionally custom quilted and the quilting has enhanced her lovely work.  Carol is off touring at the moment, so if you are reading this Carol, hope you have a fantastic time.
