Dyeing To Have Some Fun

The Art Quilt Group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month.
On the first Saturday of March our members did some fabric dyeing under the instruction of one of our members, Judy. Wisely, Judy wore her already dyed attire!! June is hard at work.
Marilyn looks like she has just operated on her large piece. It is under plastic 'brewing'

Some beautiful lively colours were achieved.

Dianne was enjoying the colour purple

It was a fun day enjoyed by all. A special thank you to Judy for all the hard work she put into this dyeing workshop.

Some of the finished fabrics by Dianne.

If you are interested in joining the Art Quilters please see the main web page for details on how to join the Toowoomba Quilters Club.

Display of colourful quilts

The walls of the club's meeting room were filled with a colourful display of some quilts that have been completed lately.

Norelle proudly displayed her quilt which won champion in the Toowoomba handicraft section of the show with her quilt "Something new from Something old". Norelle had a collection of old doileys and used them in the centre of each block and crazy pieced the blocks to enhance the doiley.

This is a scrappy trip around the world and has been donated to the club's community quilting group. It has been made with lots of leftover fabric's.

Sharon has been busy putting her Bargello top together after last week's instruction on how to make a Bargello quilt. The borders are still to be put on.

Variety of Quilts

Some new Committee members were elected at our 2015 AGM held on 3 March. Contact details for the Club are listed on our Website: just click on the link on the right-hand side of this blog.

The variety of quilts made by our members is always amazing.  Here are some that have been displayed at recent sewing days.
Bev B started to make a quillow for her granddaughter's birthday but was not happy with the result so converted it to  quilt and bag.

June P used a disappearing 9-patch with I-spy blocks to make this quilt for Melody's baby.

Joan R bought souvenier fabrics on her trip to New Zealand and made them into this lovely quilt.

Pat L has been awarded numerous prizes for her quilts that she has displayed at some local shows (Allora and Pittsworth) this year.  Congratulations to her for her quilts and her prizes. These are some of them:

Last week Betty, Convenor, chaired the first meeting of our 2015 Exhibition Committee. All Club members are invited to the meetings where ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

Show and Tell Tuesday

We are still getting a good roll up of eager quilters on a Tuesday.
Last Tuesday Gayle A showed a group of us how to use the clubs ‘Go Cutter’ to easily and quickly cut strips, squares and other shapes.  It is available for members’ use at the club house.
Gayle and many of our ladies are still enjoying the leisurely pursuit of sashiko quilting.  Here are two of Gayle’s latest sashiko quilts.

June P has done this lovely quilt using some Australian fabrics.  This quilt is going to Italy with them in May so she can deliver it in person to the lucky recipients.

The next I Spy quilt is made by Lynn R – S for a friend’s baby.  Her friend loves black and white in her quilts and in this case, it really works well with the other bright colours included.

We love to see your quilts on a Tuesday, members, so keep them coming.
Happy Quilting.
