25 Year Celebration

On the 5 December 2009 members of the Toowoomba Quilters Club Inc. celebrated their 25 year anniversary in conjunction with their annual Christmas luncheon.

Approximately 45 members attended, and the club rooms were festooned with members’ Christmas Quilts and other Christmas items. The theme of the day was ‘silver’ and some of the members brought along creative hand-made ornaments of silver paper and foil.

As part of the proceedings, our 2009 raffle quilt was presented to the winner, Hannah and we also handed over a cheque (proceeds of the raffle quilt) to the manager of the Blue Care Therapy Centre Toowoomba, Mrs Jill Cory.

The day was filled with fun games and competitions, block swap, secret santa, raffles and lucky door prizes. Any monies raised on the day went to our Christmas charity, Spiritus.

Open Day

We were delighted by the number of visitors to our Open Day on Saturday 17 October and look forward to seeing some of them at our regular sewing sessions on Tuesdays &/or Saturdays. (Check out our website for details.)

Ailleen Collins(far right) was thrilled to be the winner of this "heart quilt", the Lucky Door prize, drawn at the end of the day. She was so excited she jumped into her car and immediately came up to Jellicoe Street to collect her quilt!

This is a photo of Fay Suley, Secretary, Toowoomba Quilters Club, in her corner on Open Day, happily sharing her knowledge and expertise with visitors and club members.

2009 Exhibition - Viewers' Choice

This is the beautiful quilt created by Robyn Ginn that won the Viewers' Choice vote at our Annual Exhibition last month. Lots of people were heard to comment on the difficult task of choosing their favourite quilt from the many that were on display but at the end of the week, this quilt entitled The Brevity of Life was the clear winner. Congratulations to Robyn who is a prolific creator of wonderful quilts and a lovely person who contributes much to our club.

In August (that's during the coming week) there will be a demonstration workshop on No Waste Flying Geese. 2009 Queensland Quilters Annual Picnic

This is getting to be old news - but it is something we want to share.

Toowoomba Quilters Club hosted this annual event during May this year and we were delighted to welcome over 360 people from approximately 20 clubs in the region. The Autumn in Toowoomba theme was evidenced by the autumn leaf name tags for participants and the display of the entries in the Club Challenge Quilt Contest which required members to create an original quilt, 24 inches square, with an autumn theme. These are just a few of the entries. (More photos will follow in a future blog entry.)

The pin cushion swap was very popular, the on-site vendors were kept busy and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to share knowledge and ideas with fellow quilters.

Proceeds from the raffle and cent auctions were donated to Angel Flight.
