2012 Raffle Quilt Started

On our regular Tuesday meet on 7th February some of our members (under the tuition and guidance of member, Lyn Crump from Busy Quilting) began our 2012 raffle quilt.

It is going to be a stunning quilt constructed from batiks.  The pattern is one designed by Judy Niemeyer called “Reflections”.

This lovely vibrant quilt from Sheila D is all finished now and was beautifully quilted by Lyn Crump from ‘Busy Quilting’.

This bright and cheerful hand pieced hexagon quilt was put together by Cheryl G for her little grand daughter, Kara. Beautiful, Cheryl.

“Sewphie” was hand made by our expert doll maker in the group, Lyn L.  “Sewphie” is made from a pattern by Julie McCullough and if you look closely she has many sewing requisites used in her making.  Even a cotton reel hairdo.

It was lovely to see Helen B back at quilting after a forced hiatus. Helen was affected severely by our 2010 flash flooding.  She has been the recipient of some wonderful generosity in the past year, and now she is giving some herself. Helen is working on a project for Linus and has been making and giving these wonderful tactile quilts.  Other members may wish to get in on the act, and that would be most welcomed, just have a talk to Helen and she will advise you.

Some more show and tell from our most recent member, Robbie.  Thanks for bringing along your quilts and sharing them with us, Robbie.

“Young at Heart”.  Robbie has collected over 600 “I Spy” fabrics over the past 10 years and using 169 squares has  made at least 70 of these quilts – selling many but also giving them to charities such as Red Cross, Breast Cancer Research.  This  “I Spy “ quilt is great for a beginner.  Robbie also sell parcels of 169 squares to offset her costs if Club members are interested.

“UK Memories”.  In April 2011 Robbie had her first ever, yes, first ever holiday.  She was in England and Wales for a month and collected teatowels and fabrics, of course.  A real hotch potch.  This stack and slash pattern provided the solution.  Robbie free motioned the names of the places and things that she enjoyed.

This quilt-top was donated by a local lady during the floods.  Angela beautifully quilted the large colourful star in a random star design using a variegated thread.
